five tips for making the perfect coffee

Our blending experts have lavished great care and attention on creating the perfect ground coffee. Here are a few tips on creating the perfect cup.

For the perfect flavour avoid using boiling water – if it’s too hot you will scald the coffee and it will taste bitter. Allow to cool for a while, but not too long or you will not extract the full flavour from the coffee and it will taste weak.

When making a cafetiere, pour in the hot water from a little height so that it stirs up the coffee as it enters. Remember to use the appropriate amount of water for the number of cups you are making.

To indulge your senses, just before pouring why not remove the lid and lightly break the surface to enjoy an intense aroma. With a little experience, the smell will tell you how well you have brewed your coffee.

When you taste or "cup" coffee, slurp it so that it is aerated and contacts all parts of your tongue. The various taste buds on different parts of your tongue will allow you to enjoy the different flavours.

If you fancy trying your coffee iced for a change, place ice cubes in a tall glass with equal portions of cold coffee and milk. Add cream, sugar, and for an extra treat Vanilla essence to suit your taste.
